[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]We are often asked, “Why do I need wedding dress preservation and what is it?”  Wedding dress preservation is the proper wedding dress cleaning service of your dress, inclusive of the storage of your dress with proper materials.  This service is needed if you intend on keeping your dress in its most pristine condition now and into the future. It’s the proper solution for protecting your wedding dress investment. It is also the safest method to avoid stretching of the fabric in the should areas of the dress.

Sometimes it is best to describe this industry term by “what it is not”. It is not the application of any “sprays” or “sealants” directly to the fabric of your dress to somehow protect the fabric from oxidation and aging. The preservation service is proper cleaning and storage in the right materials.

In the industry, the term preservation refers to the process of storing your gown using the proper acid-free and lignin-free materials that make up the design of the box. Improper packaging materials can damage fabric in the future.  Preservationists in the business may also use different terms for this box such as a “wedding chest”.

Preservation is really only meant to refer to the process of storing your dress for the long term. If you are reselling your dress, you would not need to preserve it.

The expense of preservation is primarily the materials used for this box. To make a museum quality, fully acid-free and lignin free box (by products of paper manufacturing) is expensive. Sometimes less well made boxes are “paneled”, meaning they are not fully acid-free throughout all of the box. Our company chooses to use the most high-grade museum quality box in the industry that is fully acid-free and lignin free, thru and thru!  This helps protect your dress and it’s fabric for decades.

Most preservationists will tell you that the most important part of the process is proper cleaning. And they are right! However, during packaging/preserving, its important to remember to avoid hard folds in the fabric when packaging up the dress for long term storage.
